An angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Go south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” On his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. This man was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet. The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?” Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.
About Philip and the Eunuch
In Acts 8, the Apostle Philip was sent on a special mission by God to the south. An angel from the Lord took Philip away from his successful ministry and sent him south into the desert. Obediently, he left Jerusalem and went into the desert where he came across an important governmental official from Ethiopia. The Holy Spirit led Philip to his chariot where he found the eunuch reading from Isaiah 53:7-8. Apparently by the Spirit's prompting, Philip asked if he understood the passage. When told he didn't, Philip seized the opportunity to begin right there and explain the Good News of Jesus Christ to him. As a result, the eunuch was converted and became the first of the gentile believers recorded in the Scriptures.
